Gentle Dental Laser Surgery
Often patients are in the need for procedures that in the past involved extensive gum surgery. Gingevectomy, extractions and root canals are now becoming a more simple treatment with the use of new laser technology. These new advances in gum surgery now enable the dentist to not use a scalpel or even the need for sutures. Because there is so little bleeding or swelling, healing times are quicker. The risk of infection is drastically cut and antibiotic use minimal. Post-operative discomfort is reduced, with often no need for pain medication. Patients experiencing these laser procedures are more comfortable and at ease with this new dental technology.
Laser surgery works by using a highly concentrated beam of light energy that sterilizes the area and is virtually pain free. The beam is extremely precise, and seals the blood vessels at the same time, eliminating lengthy procedures and in most cases, the need for anesthetic. The procedure times are drastically reduced for the patient receiving laser treatment, involving less stress and more comfort.
Many routine treatments such as cavity removal, extractions and teeth whitening are now being done with lasers. Because the laser uses light energy, there is no sound as in the drills of the past. With the use of laser treatment, whitening procedures are less time consuming. Extractions and root canals, once extensive and painful, are now done with ease using lasers that are exact and cause fewer traumas to the surrounding tissues.
Check with your dentist about what laser procedures are available for you and your family. With this new technology, treatments once avoided or feared are becoming more commonplace. Using dental lasers create a more gentle and precise approach with recovery times lessened.
